OUR MOST IMPORTANT AGENDA:
GROWING HAPPY, HEALTHY CHILDREN
Children have seven basic needs which must be met in order that they might grow to be happy and healthy.
ALL CHILDREN NEED:
- LOVE – Children need to know that they are loved. At South Shore School, we create a nurturing environment of acceptance and love by encouraging appropriate behavior through praise and positive recognition.
- ATTENTION – Children need one-on-one time from us in order to feel valuable and develop self esteem. At South Shore School, we show children that they are important by making individual time for each one every day.
- DISCIPLINE – Discipline means safety, order, and consistence. Children are impulsive. At South Shore School, we teach them to think before they act and to make responsible decisions by accepting limits and considering consequences.
- UNDERSTANDING – Children feel hurt, disappointment, anger, frustration… all the same feelings that we experience. At South Shore School, our job is to help children understand how they feel and learn to react in an appropriate way.
- RESPECT – Children test us, and we respond. However, we must consider our manner, tone of voice, and choice of words. At South Shore School, we will always show respect for our children’s feelings.
- VALUES – Children learn values from role models. At South Shore School, we know that by practicing values like honesty, integrity, and loyalty, we enable the development of these characteristics within each child.
- EDUCATION – Children are ready to learn at birth, and, therefore, should be surrounded by a language rich environment filled with learning experiences. At South Shore School, we teach from a professionally written, research-supported early childhood curriculum which offers all the basics – reading, math, science, social studies, computer, foreign language, art, and music on a developmentally appropriate level for each age.
At SOUTH SHORE COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL, we recognize that meeting these needs is imperative, because
